I think you would have more fun trying that swap into a Lancia Scorpion which really has some room for a V6 transplant.
plenty of room just have to cut the firewall there is an additional 5 inches of room where the old gas tank and spare tire go...

I do know of someone that is dropping a V6 into a Lancia Scorpion :)

Excellent - it does need something big to spread the rear wheels apart, looking at your photo! :)

Should resolve the main problem I had with my '88 X1/9, namely a lack of power...

Yes in fact the engine doesnt have to have much power to make this car scoot. Im thinking even a tired 164 engine with say 165 horse power will make this car move since it only weighs about 1700 lbs when completed...

Where are located? My mechanic is versed very well on the X-19 and we could help with ideas and parts.
Oh god with a 164 engine that thing would need wings.
Jason
A bigger questions would be how to keep the light nose on the ground and how to effectively transfer all that power to the ground with out burning up the rear wheels since the car is so light. You might have to put a sack of cement in the nose! :)

Car is Located in Orange County, California. And I want a good but Cheap mechanic... Budget remember. The expensive parts will be the labor of making mounting brackets. I need a guy that really is passionate about this type of thing... JJ

No problem. Let me know? I can set you up with my mechanic. He is building a X-19 race car. He can help. We have a 3.0L motor. But he may have another option for you.
Let me know, just an option. He is a factory trained alfa mechanic and knows the x-19 well, all fiats actually!

I will get his number to you. I had no plans of charging you BTW. He is a good reference for you and you may want him to do some work as well. He is a fantastic engine tuner.

All sounds great. IM looking forward to seeing where I can get this car done. Thanks so far. JJ
I'd be interested to hear what you are using for rear hubs. The Scorpion swap doesn't require any suspension points be relocated because the car is wide enough, but you do need to have the drive axles resplined to mate the Alfa inner CV joints to the X1/9 or Scorpion outer CV's. Are you using the Alfa hubs?

Shift linkage ideas....

The transmission in the photos is from a Lancia Thema 2liter, but it's basically the same tranny the 164 V6's use.
