I would like to find out what the racing scene was like, when it was re-started and how amateurs faired with rationing of fuel, tires, etc. Right now I'm looking for websites, books, and other sources with first hand information. Can anyone help steer me in the direction of these things?
Thanks

books

Jeff-
check out http://www.motorbooks.co.uk/ for starters. There are a bunch of good auto book sites....this is just one. I remember seeing books about the history of some of the specific tracks (like Aintree, for example.) Might get you headed in the right direction

I have had a flick through this book in a bookshop. It is very evocative of the era. Goodwood was one of the great post-war circuits, built like many others on a WW2 airfield perimeter road.

Motor Books - Goodwood Remembered 1948-1960

That era of motor racing at the circuit is now celebrated each year at the Goodwood Revival with cars from period racing in anger with the 100,000 plus visitors over the weekend all encouraged to wear period dress.
