Hello AlfaBB,
I just moved from LA to Atlanta and would like to find a good Alfa guy to keep my S4 Spider running smooth and happy. Does anyone have any experience with Alfa repair places in ATL?

I was taking my car in SoCal to Alfa Performance Center and those guys were so good (my car ran amazingly better after a number of small hose-leak type fixes my other mechanics never found) I got spoiled. I hope I can find someone in ATL that good-

Also, I need to get the car smogged in Fulton County. Was hoping to escape that vice grip when I left CA but I guess I have 2 more years here till the Spider turns 25. Any suggestions on a competent and honest smog shop would be much appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance for any referrals.

I would check with Spruell Motorsports i Atlanta. I have purchased parts from him and if he can't do the work. He should know who can nearby.

Thanks- I'd called Spruell before posting here. They don't do service and couldn't recommend anyone in ATL (which is strange to me since they've been here for decades doing Alfa stuff, unless there simply isn't an Alfa specialist in the area at all). I guess I was in Alfa Heaven in CA without knowing it, though the horrible traffic often made me feel like I was in Alfa H**l....

Velocity- what ever you do, STAY AWAY FROM RALLY AROUND. I bought an Alfa sight unseen, from Atlanta. The shop owner, Sam, was to be my eyes for the deal. He did a PPI for me, and I bought it based on his inspection. When it got here, it was a mess. Brakes didn't work, he wired a starter relay, and it was poorly done( I had to redo it). Floors were rusted(floors are completely toast), and he told me it had little to no rust. Top is unusable(trashed), burns oil, SPICA needs a rebuild, exhaust is full of holes. The guy knows nothing of ALFA, let alone claiming to be a specialist. There is even more that I could tell you, but that should suffice.

Ciao.

Howndog- thanks for the tip on Rally Around. I'd gotten similar feedback on them from someone else. Where there's smoke there's fire so I'll stay away from them. Sorry to hear what happened with your car with them- hope it got sorted in the long run.

GeorgeLesley- thanks for the tip on the Cleveland garage. There's been good feedback on them as well. It's a long haul from the city so I'll take Rick's suggestion and try to group any work together. I'm still looking for a local ATL guy for 'emergency' work when I can't drive the car up to Cleveland. So far the Spider is running fantastic so maybe I won't need that if I stay on top of things but you never know. I've been scarred for life by Jaguar so I always feel better knowing I 'have a guy' within 10 miles or so.

IgbAlfa- I totally agree and was really surprised Spruell couldn't recommend anything. Doesn't bode well for ATL Alfa people. Atlanta is a large metro area with probably quite a few Alfas roaming around and would do really well to have an Alfa Performance Center-level shop here, especially with Road Atlanta and the Appalachian Foothills nearby. If I had the right investors/partners I'd open one myself (when I get some time) because the South is just crying out for it. I'd love to rehab cheap S3 Spiders with Busso V6's and Alfaholics suspension mods and set them out to conquer Southern Driver's souls but that's another thread....

It is a bit of a drive but Tom Turner - First Floor Sports Cars in Jacksonville FL is an outstanding Alfa Mechanic who still races his cars.

Thanks AlfaParticle- I'll definitely check out FFSC in FL. If they're APC level it'll be worth the haul for serious work (like I want to do when the Spider reaches 25 and is no longer caught in GA's smog web). Cheaper than shipping it to APC....
