i am having engine work done, (spider 2000 1992) and seems the front crank pully is leaking oil. mech has not had any luck finding one...any ideas?

i sort of remember there was a place in calf, that had salvaged parts, but have not found it again, perhaps it is gone? but i would prefer to put a new part.

thanks guys.:grin2:

I might be wrong but doubt pulley has anything to do with that leak. Wait for others to chime in before replacing it.

thanks...he is repairing a timing chain disaster. and has had the engine apart...he is suposed to know what he is doing( i hope) but i will , as you suggest , wait for more chimes. we can all use as much info as is available.

Crank pulleys can crack, and they can get grooves from the front main seal, but I agree that neither is the cause of the leak. If it is cracked, it needs to be replaced, but if it is grooved, you can probably install a speedi-sleeve.

I am curious to know why the mechanic says you need a replacement pulley?

As said, you may only need a new seal or a speedi sleeve to address a groove.
