Help, my 1977 Alfa Romeo Spyder steering wheel is locked and I can't figure out how to unlock it. My Alfa mechanic, Ray, said to spray WD-40 into the key hole but it didn't work. Is there something I can do short of having the car towed to the shop?
Have you tried wiggling the steering wheel while gently turning the key (don't want to break the key...). Or rolling the car back and forth a few feet to relieve any pressure the tires/steering box are exerting on the lock mechanism.
Mine did the same
Strip the column cowling undo the socket head screw that retains the lock, pull the lock out to release. You can buy a new lock from www.classicalfa.com. I just sawed the end off the lock bolt so I no longer have lockable steering. I did try WD40 but it seized a second time, thats when the saw came out of the toolbox!
