Also, I am aware this oil is just used as a temporary fix, but I do believe I have caught the 2nd gear syncro issue early on
The placebo effect is often quite powerful
I see that seems like great advice. I have gotten a few people here say they have had not so great experiences with the Redline Oil, but I just made sure that it was the right kind with NS and GL-5. I'm not sure exactly why it works for some and not others. I guess it could be the year of the Alfa and the condition the synchro was in at the time someone decided to switch. If you replace the OEM rubber hose on the clutch slave cylinder with a SS/teflon braided hose, you'll get instant more positive response from the clutch pedal. It might be a minor improvement, or you might actually feel the difference in smoother shifting. It worked for me on both my Spider and my son's GTV 6. No more crunch, along with Redline lube oil. The extruded/braided teflon tube will not expand under pressure like the rubber reinforced hose does.
The several customers that I’ve put the 203 in really like it. They’ve responded back with shifts smoother, helped with boxes woth wear on the synchros. These are reports from both rebuilt and gearboxes already in use.No idea. The Redline NS did not work particularly well for me in a couple Alfas and one other car, but many people on here have had good results with it, so not sure what's up with that.
Best performing stuff I've personally used is Swepco 201 80W90, it's big in the Porsche crowd. Jim G has replaced the transmission oil on a lot more cars than me, I'm sure, and he recommends the Swepco 203 90wt with moly: I may try that next time. Either way Swepco makes a good product.
