I have an ITG JC50/S/75 air filter on my GTV. I used air filter oil on it that I got from Coast Fabrication, where I bought the filter about eight years ago.

After neglecting the filter for far too long, I washed it as per the No-Toil cleaning solution directions ... and watched as the outer layer of the foam filter crumbled and went down the drain.

My two questions for other foam filter users are:

1. How long do you expect a foam filter to last before it needs replacement?
2. Do you find that foam filters last longer when you use oil on them or when you don't?

Given the cost of these things, I want mine to last as long as possible.

Well that is strange . The cleaned should be just very strong soap? I use the single foam type from K&N had them for 5 years or so and no sign of trouble yet.

8 years does seem like a good run .

As to your question 2 . Foam filters are not to be used without oil .
The foam may take out the larger bits but not the small stuff .

According to Gary at Coast Fabrication, three years is a good life span for a foam filter. That doesn't seem long enough for a $176 special order filter.
