My '84 Spider seems to always take two tries to start hot or cold. I'll crank for about 2 seconds stop then crank again and it starts right up. Its been doing this for several months now. Have I got a relay thats going out or somthing else?
Since this is a hot or cold issue, I'd look at fuel flow, fuel pressure.
Try this...When you get in the car, turn your ignition from 'off' to 'on', without engaging the starter, once or twice and then try to start the car. Turning your key to 'on enables the fuel pump and should build fuel pressure prior to starting.
A 91 and I have the exact same problem. Hot or cold it usually won't start first time. Once started it will fire right up again. Sometimes it fires right up. No rhyme or reason to why it will or will not fire right up.
It began when I fixed the exhaust. May have just been a coincidence
Great write up. Looks like I have some fiddling to do.
