1993 alfa romeo 164s
receiving a call from my father (a mechanic) i suspected the worse he was 2 hours late and driving my 164s
he tells me he heard the same noise that he heard from his Mitsubishi Gallant when his timing belt broke
we go to his shop the next day
took off the valve cover and taking off the lower intake manifold when i hear what i thought where rocks but how could they get past the air filter i turn it over and pieces of a valve seat and valve (the long part)
i have never seen so much carnage and internal damage
i have yet to take heads off from peaking from the intake inlets on the head
i look on the side of the block and see the timing belt tensioner was missing the lever where it held the pressure of the oil anywho
i peak back inside and see the intake valve upside down logged in the head
from the pieces i saw part of the piston

wondering if i should invest in a used v6 3.0 and swap the cams
or if i should invest in refubished heads about and pistons , rings liners

ohh yeah i took was taking off the spark plugs all but the one with the valve logged in the head came out with out ease i left the plug there ill post pictures when i get the heads off

Have a look at the one I bought a few years back. The poor unemployed owner was trying to sell it when it was running. A potential buyer missed a shift at 6,000RPM. Belt jumped and distorted it. I rebuilt an engine and it's now going to be my daily driver.

i would red line her pretty often =/ like at leat 4 to 6 times a day at the most i love the speed of that car ,
anyways my father said he was just taking a turn when her heard it
i havent had time to take off the head i just need to take off the little hoses on the side its the onlything in my way right now
if i may ask how much was the rebuild and what did u buy?
i think i may need the heads there were aluminum scraps in the intake manifold and exhaust manifolds bothfront and back did u see the valve in the head?!?! took me by surprise honest i thought it would be a few bend valves
the used engine i have my eyes on has 129k miles

I had a good running used spare engine with 167,000 miles on it to start the rebuild, not the damaged one. I didn't buy pistons and liners. I basically stripped the damaged engine of the accessories and scrapped the rest, including the block. I kept the crank. So basically I spent about $3000 in parts and machine shop charges.
If I were you, I'd buy the used engine..
As far as the damaged engine, I had metal pieces at the throttle plate, antifreeze at the air filter.

thanks, i think im gonna get the engine in a few weeks then rebuild the s engine
this is where people think im crazy i was thinking of using other pistons than alfa
what i was thinking Japanese or american for the reason that machine shops here wont work on my engine they refused to in the ten places i asked as soon as they heard "alfa romeo" they said they where sorry i guess they are accustomed to chevy and fords =[
do u have any idea what might work as in (jdm) pistons and floating liners
i want to make a major upgrade both for power and reliability

If you want to pay someone else to rebuild an Alfa engine, you need to find an Alfa specialist. I'm sure there is one in your area. Have you joined AROC? They will put you in touch with a local club who will provide you with a wealth of information and likely know who are the Alfa mechanics in your area.

i was looking at the "ah motor sports" pistons and liners alittle too deep for my pockets
i dont have a job since im to young to work

and i have looked and found 2 75 Milano's in my neighbor hood !! but the day i went to ask they vanished i pass by at least once a week and never see them
unforgettably ive only seen one other 164 and it was for sale and stolen under my nose
i saw a gtv6 at a car meet but he was on his way out
trust me ive been on the out look for 4 years and been looking online but im not sure how to get in contact

either way ill rebuild her myself i need to learn
