I'm having an intermittent gauge problem where sometimes the Oil Pressure and Engine Temperature gauges don't work. This is never a good thing at any time, but with the weather warming up here, it's even more important to ensure correct temperature monitoring (duh!).
Sometimes they're working when I start the engine, and sometimes they're not. Sometimes they die when driving and occasionally come back to life. This lovely behaviour is accompanied by the power steering warning light flashing away.
Are there any standard problems I should be looking for? Known dodgy plugs, power supply's or earths?

The what!? Oh, you mean the little steering wheel symbol, believe it or not that's the warning lamps warning lamp  (see my site).

Gauges could be grounds or wiring to or in the instrument cluster.

Could be loose nuts on the bolts holding the gauges to the circuit board.
