I installed a new fuel sender and now the gas gauge is working. I tested the fuel pump but its making a loud screeching sound and not very smooth almost like its jumping or skipping. Is this because its a dry test? Does it have to be submerged for it to run smoothly getting lubricated by the fuel?
Thanks In Advance,
Chuck

After your response I submerged it in a bucket of gasoline and it became real quiet and silk smooth. Thanks for that Gubi.

I had a difficult time trying to understand how/why you would submerge a fuel pump in gas to cool/lubricate it. But it works and works well.

While you are "in there", it's a good idea to visually make sure that the tank pump is delivering a proper supply of fuel to the main pump. Same then for checking for proper fuel pressure at the fuel rail, and proper return to the tank.
