I'm working on chasing down some idle faults, using John's guide. I've pulled the idle stabilizer to clean it and noticed that the flapper appears to be slightly open when pulled from the car. Is this normal or should it be 100% closed when installed? I'm going to clean it but want to be sure that gap is normal. See the attached image. Thanks!

Yeah, it should be slightly open. That's a fail-safe so if the unit stops working it still allows air through and the car can idle.

Note that the flap rotates towards that opening (i.e., the opening closes as the flap starts to rotate).

Also on the 12v 164 V6 engine there is an adjustment on the min/max throttle switch. Did you check it for click on 1 degree click off 0 degree just as throttle body arm hit throttle stop? If that is set wrong idle can seek or run higher than normal.

Hey Steve, I'm working through all of the fault tests now, will start a new thread with all of the details. Min/Max switch is on my list to check.
