HVAC Mixing Door

The actuating arm for the HVAC mixing door has broken off on my 91 164L. Is there a way to access the door and manually move it. If possible, I would like to avoid removing the dash and replacing the door. Thanks. Don

Are you referring to temp control arm behind false firewall as that is only arm in a/c heating system on the 164? Air drum that changes air flow from dash to floor to defrost is keyed to front stepper motor on LHD models and has no lever so to repair IAW Alfa 164 TSB 80.94.01 you must follow these directions to access it Alfa 164 TSB 80.93.02

Is this what you mean?

If you mean temp door lever then you have to do this to access it
Search for blower motor change info. Bob and I have posted text and pictures on how to do it on this forum http://www.lexingtonma.net/users/BobC/blower.php

Steve,
The temperature control door is the one I'm talking about. I think the manual I have calls it a mixing door. Per your instructions, replacement is from the engine compartment and does not require a dash pull as I thought. I was hoping I could access the door and move it manually to the heat position negating a replacement for now. If I decide to replace, do you recommend the Saab parts? Thanks. Don

Yes blower motor and temp door replace both see www.eeuoparts.com as one possible source for both.

The work taken to access the door is about the same as the work required to replace it ;) It's not actually a bad job as these things go. I found that removing the wiper linkage helped me gain a little more clearance to move the A/C evaporator unit, but my wipers were right-hand-drive so this may not apply to left-hand-drive.

The blower motor has two metal tangs one-third of the way down each side to hold it in place, and from memory the mixing door is free to remove once the motor casing is loose. It's all a relatively clean job and nothing like the work to access the stepper motors (incidentally, I reckon it is quicker to remove the dashboard complete, with all wiring, should you need access to the distribution drum or steppers. The partial dashboard removal advocated by some is actually more time-consuming, I find).
