How to hook up timing light

1261 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  GTV4EVR
My GTV has the battery in the trunk. Where is the best place to get power for the timing light? Do I connect it directly to the alternator? Any place I can find 12 volts? Does it matter?

Thanks...

I'd try the positive cable on the starter for the hot side, and a solid ground for the cold.

I'll see if the cables are long enough. I find I can't see the pointer from the passenger side.
The alternator isn't a good place for the hot side?
Starter, alternator, + side of the coil should be fine too.

The timing light power source does not have to be from the vehicle. A spare battery sitting on the ground to power the light will work just as well.
Thanks folks!
