I was inspecting the transmission mount and gave the output shaft a shake and it’s rock solid. But, the driveline itself has slight radial play. Is that normal? When I move from stop I can hear a “clink” so I suspect this is the cause.

Yes. Very normal assuming you mean radial play including the diff. There should be less than.002” in the driveshaft alone

The clink or ting noise you describe may be a U joint. But the play is normal. By radial play I thought you meant the driveshaft movement around the center carrier bearing and mount. That will normally have some radial flex, as it is a bonded rubber bearing mount.

It’s better described as “rotational” play as, like you supposed, radial play would be deflection off the axis. No problem there.
