Hi all,

Been sorting out my '83 gtv6. I notice that the three wires going into the ignition switch get very warm/hot to the touch when its turned on. I've cleaned the plug which didn't help.

This is just sitting with the ignition on. Engine not running, no lights, no radio, no clock, nothing much. I guess the only thing on is the ECU.

Anyway is there anything running through the ignition switch which I should wire through a relay to avoid the wiring overheating or the ignition switch burning out?

Thanks for any insights.

Hot switch

Do you know if this is the original switch? You might have worn contacts inside allowing the starter to draw amperage even though the key is not at the crank/start position. Disconnect the hot line to the solenoid and see if the problem goes away.

it could be corroded connectors that plug onto the switch. any resistance from corosion will make heat. the heat loosens the springiness of the connectors and makes more resistance and heat. any push on connectors that have changed color are suspect.
