Cleaning an early non-moly gearbox case for reassembly. Noticed to hole in the case in pic below that seems plugged with some sort of sealant. Is this normal?

Hole leads into the shift rod. It’s the hole with two notches next to it.

That's where they cross drill into shift rail holes to place the two jelly bean detents then seal hole with that plug.

Thanks for the confirmation. This gearbox had 2 holes where it shouldn't, so just wanted to make sure there wasn't a 3rd one!
