Many say yes, some say no. I figure it depends on how many miles are on the unit on the car. Carlo, my Alfa specialist, says that he's not seen one fail hydraulically, but he has seen a couple where water collected in the open top and rusted the shaft/piston, making it stick (maybe that area should be filled with grease or Vaseline?). Those he changes, or whenever the owner wants it changed anyway.

For my LS with 110k miles on it, 10k on the new timing belt, I will probably change it the next time the belt is changed, at about 140k miles or 5-6 years, whichever comes first, just because.... I don't know if it was changed when the belt was changed at the 60k miles major service when I bought the car in 2004, but I very strongly suspect it was. Will have to review the service invoice from Carlo. It wasn't changed when he changed the belt 10k miles ago.

Others may recommend a different schedule. I say go with the majority.

Don't know anything about that. Not sure one could duplicate the precision of the manufacturer.

No that's a kit for the 12V hydraulic unit. I agree with Del except I have seen many fail since I have sold many for failed units. I have sold around 12-15 units this year alone so that should tell you something. Age/mileage is the main failure of these. They last around 100K miles, some less, some more.

I got it all yes.

Tensioner is $395.00 (more in this next week) I am trying to keep the price down on these but they may go up soon. Not sure yet. Not by much though.
