I have replaced both outer wheel bearings of the rear of my 101 giulia spider of 1963. The left wheel axle, when turning, now makes a crunching noise inside the differential with the axle fully inserted into the shaft. No noise is heared when the left axle is not fully inserted.

This noise happens both with or without the right axle in place.

What is wrong? Wrong bearings?

Issue solved!
The lock nuts that secure the bearings was deformed and had a bump. This bump was about .5 mm in heigth, and was caused by loosening and rightening the nut. The bump was colliding with the axle tube.

Sure it is great when you solve the issue. The hard moment is when you simply don't know what is wrong.
I dismoantled the rear axle and had a look at the diff. Clearly the issue was not there. Good news is that I learned how to remove and reinstall the rear axle in little time...
