Can anyone advise on the trick to installing new handbrake cable grommets over the existing cable end links? As shown in the attached picture, the cable end is too large to fit through the grommet / boot. The grommets get installed next to the rear calipers and keep dust out of the parking brake mechanism.

Agreed.

Where did you source these grommets from? I was told about three years ago that these were NLA as a separate item.

From Highwood. They also sell new cable segments with the grommet already installed.

I acknowledge the need for brute force in some applications, but in this one it will likely tear the ruber apart.

Have folks actually installed these with success using brute force? Is it easier at the inboard (differential) or brake shoe end?

Toss it in a pan of boiling water for a bit. Softens it right up.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the boiling water tip worked perfectly last night. The grommet slipped over the much larger cable end without tearing the rubber. Thanks Papa J!
