I hope I won't need it, but has anyone replaced the Hall Unit sensor in their V-6 distributor? Hall Unit failure is fact of life on BMW air-cooled two-cylinder motorcycles from the '80s and replacement of the entire distributor unit (the 'bean can') is several hundred dollars.

What those guys figured out is that the Hall sensor itself is a $20 Honeywell part that's easily found in electronics supply houses and fairly easily replaced in the bean can.

Has anyone found out about this for the distributors in our cars?
