Hello everyone,
I have an '83 gtv6. Ive done a few jobs of moderate difficulty
on this car, but now i have to replace the water pump. I have the
valve covers off, belt guards off, radiator out. I was wondering if
anyone has a clear step by step set of pics, a video or text for this job.
My main concern is de-tensioning/ tensioning he belt and maintaining
timing. Am i in over my head and will i need special tools,or is this do-able for
for an average alfa owner? Also i dont know how to tell if tensioner is mechanical or oil pressure driven. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Look at the sticky thread for Alfisto Steve's maintenance tips under the 164 topic (and get a manual). The 164 uses the same timing belt and tensioner. You don't need any special tools. There is also an Alfa technical bulletin that deals with installation of the mechanical tensioner which may be under the same topic.
