I am dismantling a spare trans-axle Conedriver gave me a few years ago. I want to get the Dedion tube all cleaned up and Powder Coated to substitute into my GTV6, but I've run into a very ticklish problem. The offset castings for the brake disk mounting are different for the GTV 6 and the Milano. I my picture, the tall offsets are from the GTV6 and the short ones are from the Milano Trans-axle. Does this mean the half-shafts are different lengths or the spacing from "back of the outboard hub mount" to "back of outboard hub mount" are different between the two cars. If so, there is no point in me getting the Milano Dedion tube all painted up. Who knows for sure. I may have some good Milano half-shafts for sale.

FYI: The inner circle of bolts are different too. The GTV uses 10mmX 1.0 extra fine thread grade ten hex-head bolt with a 15mm wrench head. Very difficult to find. The Milano used a 10mm X 1.0 Extra fine thread allen Socket-head bolt. The allen socket tool fits down in those holes in the offset piece. I guess you could use the socket head bolts on the GTV6 offste but you couldn't use the hex-head bolts in the Milano Offsets. Won't fit. My advise; Neverseize everything!

Yep........ I'm glad you chimed in here Greg.

George S. just left here a little greasier than he was when he arrived.

We dismantled a Milano Half Shaft - that was fun - and arrived at the same conclusion before reading your post. I guess I want to get both sets of half-shafts and both sets of offsets cleaned up and painted. The end caps of the CV joints are going in my next bucket of parts to be bromide plated.
The De-dion tube will go to the Powder Coater. What color do you guys think I should have it coated if you had two to paint. One for hanging on the garage wall complete with spare trans-axle.

They will never make ALFAs with this kind of stuff again. In-board brake calipers; double disk, hydraulically actuated clutch, five speed gear box; differential; all mounted on a DeDion rear suspension with Watts link location.

WOW! This looks dangerous...
Some say so on Ebay etc, but the GTV6 Half Shafts and Drive shafts are not the same as the Milano's. Buyer beware. I know far more about these parts than I did eight hours ago. Side by side comparison reveals a lot of information. You guys here on the BB help a lot too.

GTV6 Newbie: You are missing a big washer and a "circlip" type retainer on the end of the half-shaft that is suppose to keep the CV on the splines of the shaft. These do not move on the splines. Conedriver and I had to use a press today to get the CV portion off the end of the splined shaft. I didn't have it on the car so I couldn't take it around an agressive curve to get it apart. :) These things are made in Germany (FYI).
