yes, if you have a separate heater valve in the engine bay then you can bypass the stock one. Not sure it is available for replacement anyways. But you should check and make sure you are not leaking from a hose or something. It could be a hose, fitting, heater valve, or heater core. The trail of green crusty should lead you to the culprit. Let me know if you need any help. I am not down your way much, but advice is cheap. And I have a matching car to use as an example now!!
