fuel pump

HELLO I spent a week or so trying to find out why my 88 spider stopped last week but thanks to alfa bb was able to learn the relay was burned im trying to find a new one somewhere in Toronto . what took so long was learning that the fuel pump relay was under the cpu I cut the top off and touched the trans former inside and the engine started . I found a burn mark on the circuit board . can anyone tell me what could have caused that or is it just old age Don
