doe's it turn on both pumps or just the main fi pump?

Er, do you have a '90 or an '89? In the '90-on Motronic cars one relay drives both fuel pumps (and also the O2 sensor heater, which I found out when a buddy's car kept blowing the fuse).

If it's an L-Jet I don't know offhand, but IIRC the Cardisc has a good overview wiring diagram of the whole L-jet system.

1984..i was wondering, as i have a honda cvicc pump in the car, should i leanghten the wires from the old fi pump, or just let the power supply from the in-tank pick up pump work it..

The single fuel pump relay powers both fuel pumps in the L-jet system as well. A single red/white wire from the relay output goes up the right side of the car, through the firewall and connects to the inertia switch. From the switch, the wire goes across the width of the firewall where it then re-enters the cabin and goes to pin 9 of connector G73, located behind the fusebox, where the wire splits into two red/white wires; one going to the in-tank pump and the other to the main pump.
