Fried 84 spider: Engine lean?, Engine mount question

784 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Norseman50
Making slow progress in removing engine and trans. Today noticed that the engine has a definite lean from passenger side toward drivers side (see photo). Is this right? Also, which engine mount component should be removed? The rubber part where it is bolted to the engine compartment looks impossible to get to. Where the bracket is mounted to the rubber part looks worse! If the bracket is removed from the engine, the studs will be in the way of extracting the engine. Any advice?

The lean is not correct. I remove the drivers side motor mount completely first - both pieces. This will give you some sing room towards the drivers side when you remove the passengers side mount. I just remove the bottom bolts on the passengers side mount and then pull the motor, passengers side mount and all.

Eric is correct. The photograph he included this earlier post is very enlightening: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/spider-1966-up/171255-engine-not-level.html#post926801
