OK... I'm stumped.
I've just gotten a Spider Burman steering box (with long steering column) from a fellow BB'er, to replace my U-jointed GTV Burman 'box (in my '74 GTV).
The u-jointed box is easy enough to remove and re-install in the car, once the u-joint is disconnected.
But how the heck do I wriggle the long-column Spider box up through the firewall hole and into place with the engine still in the car?
I don't see how it can possibly be moved into position.
Do I need to remove the exhaust headers? The brake booster? The engine? My service manual says to remove the airbox (!)... clearly not written for US-market cars.
I'll figure it out eventually, but I'd love to hear from someone who has done this in a GTV.
