My son just scored a free Hardtop. We have all the hardware and I just bought the Hazzard defroster switch. What relay do we need for the defroster? Also where is the switch that controls the footwell lights and the hardtop light to either turn off with the timer or doors or just off.

Thanks in advance

For the lights to work. All you have to do is plug in the top harness to the body harness. It hidden behind the carpet behind the drivers side door pillar.

Thats all you have to do if your footwell lights are working correctly. Map light in the hardtop works off the switch next to it.

The relay is a double 87 pin terminal relay.

Yes. The foot well light is a switch. on/intermediate/off. But they are triggered by the door switches and there is a timer relay in the fusebox.

So when we plugged the hard top in they came on. I need check the switch positions and the door switches. They never worked before. I’ll pick up a relay at NAPA it seems pretty common.

you need a defrost relay (well, if you want it to work, that is)
it's in the 5th position from left.

It is a standard relay, like the horn relay (originally a metal Sipea 0440 relay, so any equivalent relay)

when tightening the J hooks, don't just tighten them as far as they go...you need to leave a small gap.

Did you fit the rear hooks as well (the ones that screw in place of those little chrome turret R2D2 things?)

The hardtop light can itself be adjusted to come on as the interior lights come on.
plus that little eyeball light (I suppose a reading light designed for any rear passengers/hitchhikers we pick up, or maybe just to keep the dog happy:)
The light is great when it works but a horribly cheap design and the plastic switch breaks, then it becomes useless.

Someone on here has done new seals for the hard top.

Would love to know who that "someone" is that has done new seals.
