I recently re-acquired a ‘73 Spider that I owned 30 years ago. I found that the wipers, heater fan and turn signals (and possibly the radio) all work without the key in the ignition. I’m trying to remember if this is normal or if someone did some re-wiring. If it’s not normal and no changes were made, maybe the ignition switch is acting up.

Did a search on this, but didn’t see anything specific - I apologize if I didn’t dig deep enough...

It is how they were wired from the factory.

I would never had guessed. I will have to check mine. Do all the years work this way?
No, in the later cars many more accessories were changed to switched power.

The issue is those are all relatively high-power devices, and you don't want all that current going through the ignition switch. They could've used relays but that adds complexity and cost.
