Early Spider Storage.....

Sadly the car must go into storage soon. You can see by my new accident-inspired automotive wear ( ) that driving is not permitted for the next 3 months.

My beautiful wife will learn the fine art of my winter storage routine and the car will enter hibernation about one month early. What a way to end the season! ;)

Rob! - what happened? I sure hope this isn't too serious...

Best regards,
Compression fractures of T12 and L1.....an extension ladder collapsed under me and I dropped about 6'. A friend set it up and his wife went up it first. I followed her and ladder let go.

No Spider driving as I cannot get in and out of the car (too low) or shift. Actually no driving at all since the drugs are pretty strong. So its back to the Audi's.....makes me wish for an automatic 164 to satisfy my Alfa cravings.

The worst part of this is that October is typically the best month for driving the Vermont mountains. Great color, cool sunny days, etc. But not this year. I will have to "observe and direct" my wife through setting up the car for storage. I think it will be the first time she spins a wrench! :D

Sorry to here the news, Rob.
Perhaps I could hook you up with my nephew to lend some assistance?
Jim,
Thanks for the offer. I really want to have my wife work with me on but if I need help, I will take you up on the offer.

Oh, boy... that's very unfortunate, Rob. I hope that you recover quickly and don't get too frustrated. At least it seems like you have a sense of humor about it, and humor does help in these situations. I sure hope your wife does too - especially after she spins a wrench! :D

:( Dammit Rob, I warned you:mad:

Yep you did...but as a one-time roll-your-own-er, you know being told what to do by someone else has its reactions. Only wish I had paid attention. I am thankful I have 10 fingers, 10 toes and everything in-between works.

As an aside, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to those people who volunteer as paramedics. We were on an island in Lake Champlain and it was the volunteer paramedics of northwestern VT that took me off island by boat to a waiting ambulance.

Bravo to those people who volunteer their lives to help others....in this case me!
Wow, this is the first that I've seen of this thread, don't know how I missed it. I'm glad to see that you are recovering Rob. It always amazes me when a seemingly harmless activity has the ability to debilitate a person. Here's to a speedy recovery.
Thanks Nick. Good to see you at Limerock.

The offer on your next trip to So Burlington remains. Send me a PM before your next trip here and we can meet for lunch. No wine however as it does not mix well with the painkillers!:D

Wow, Rob, I'm so sorry to hear of your accident. Take good care of it, and don't try to rush the recovery. It wasn't with your sort of injury, but I've seen people double their recovery time by trying to shorten it!
Rob, best wishes for a speedy recovery. Now I know why I hate extension ladders so much.
Yes get well soon.

I found this for those still intent on climbing

but I'd suggest something no bigger than this

and the post was not meant to be a joke.
It remains embarrasing for sure. After 30 years in the construction industry and managing many people incuding safety officers, I take a dump from a very preventable accident. I know better....I knew better.

Since I work from home, I can continue to work albeit a shorter work week until I can reduce the drugs.

But I am sick with the fact that the Spider sits in the garage while it is 70 degrees, cool and sunny and we are well into the Fall colors. The Spider was going to have a few more "parts" replaced before winter. Now it gets only an oil change, bath, and its winter preservation routine. Plus the Audi's need wax and the winter rims installed.

The challenge is be well and strong enough for the later half of ski season (Feb-April). So Bob Farace's words of wisdom ring very true!

Thanks for the well wishes. Now I can add a broken back to my previous cracked hip, dislocated shoulder, broken collar bone, and minor concussion.

Don't know how I missed this, must've been on vacation in Cali or making wine in Walla Walla.
I add my wishes for your speedy recovery. I can't/won't offer to come help your wife put your Spider in storage, though I would come drive it for the next month or so, so it doesn't feel neglected through the late fall.
Speaking of fall. Hope you're better soon!

Thanks....car is yours should you make the journey. Somewhat better than the car you had when you were in Burlington a couple of years ago.

Yes, it is fall but unfortunately I cannot find my light fall suit.

Ciao Favalli
I'm an Alfista from Montreal and will probably take a ride down to your neck of the woods. I wish you a speedy recovery and maybe we'll run into each other in Burlington one day.
Stai bene

Adriatico,

It would be great to meet you. I want to take the Spider to Montreal but never made it there. I have been there many times but always seem to end up driving one of the Audi's.

Maybe come spring when the car is out of storage and my back is healed, we can have a get-together in Montreal as I suspect there are more Alfa's there then around the Burlingnton area....or at least cars connected to folks who want to get together around their Alfas!
