The Marelli S166B serves two purposes. One is that under high load conditions, the secondary points come into play to retard the ignition timing a few degrees. This prevents knocking. As a result of this, under low and medium load conditions, the ignition timing is advanced a few degrees which can favorably effect emissions and fuel economy.
