After a complete rebuild of my drive shaft, I sent the shaft to be balanced. Turns out the shop could not get it mounted in their machine. They tried, and did not charge me, but could not help me. So I am looking for a shop within driving distance that can balance this shaft . NYC area.

sorry in advance for the dumb question - do you know for a fact that it's out of balance?

No, I don't know. It was completely apart though, and to be honest ... I was not careful with orientation because I was planning on having it balanced when it was finished .

When I lived in South Florida I went to a shop in Ft Lauderdale to get my Alfetta driveshaft balanced. It didn't fit their machine so they fabricated a part to make it fit and they did a great job.

To be fair the place I brought the shaft to said he could fabricate a piece.. But it would be extremely expensive. This place was very very busy. I think if he was slow, he would have "tried" to help me out. He had a shop full of drive shafts waiting to be balanced, without any need to fabricate anything. Easy money for him. Thus my question.... anyone know of a shop with the ability to balance one of these ??

I know this is not in the NYC area, but check freight costs and see if it works. This crew were no BS, no drama, looked at the puny little Alfetta shaft and laughed, picked it up the same afternoon, smooth as can be in the car. They use computer-based harmonic sensing devices that I understand are standard in shops that know what they're doing. The whole thing was just no big deal, that's what I liked. Can't remember what I paid so that tells me it was not a "memorable" amount! There has to be something like this in the greater NYC area I would think.

Cheers from the Old Dominion!
