I spotted this on craigslist for $500, I'm considering buying it for the winter but I'm wondering if anyone has one or knows who makes it.

Without knowing any better, and never having seen one like it before, I'd hazard someone fabricated it as a one-off.
IMHO, much too well thought out and well crafted for a one off. I too, have never seen anything like this, but very cool. Might have been one of those great ideas that was marketed at too high a price for the market and discontinued. Have you asked the owner where he got it from? It's history would be very interesting, good luck Allan
I'm going to look at it on Friday, I'll post my finding after that.
This top was advertised in the Parts For Sale Forum a few weeks ago:

I've seen two of those - I believe they're German-made, and pretty scarce here in the US. There was (is) a guy in Mass. with one on his red '85 Spider, and I think it looks great. If it was closer to me, I'd jump on it.

Agreed, but it does look an awful lot like a factory hard top from the 70's. I wonder if it started life as a factory top?

bs
Look at the photos of members cars on the AONE page, that's where I've seen it. A few years ago I emailed the owner and asked about it, and was told it was a German piece. Shortly afterwards, I saw another one on eBay, in the UK, and was told the same info, so I'm guessing it's correct. If the pic is still there on the AONE site, contact the owner.
but does it hold water in a rainstorm....that is the question.
