Thanks Pete. Wouldn't know that if you hadn't enlightened me. How much time have you spent in the United States? If your source of information is main stream "news", here's a heads-up: it's substantially flawed.

The most important skill is being able to laugh at ones own country, so your country and leader is just as fair game as mine.

America is faaaaar from perfect or right.

One can only control what they can, and lead by example. Plus in the case of the environment every little bit helps, and yes there will always be countries that won't play ball.

If the UN wasn't so useless ... but it is

i do not want the UN or any other non-elected entity making rules...esp flawed ones like the china example i gave above.....believe me i can laugh at my country, that's what democracy is about
(unlike the people in iran, china, or venezuela who would probably be arrested)...all i am saying is that you should take a look at your country before you take a shot at ours...we are not perfect, but having traveled around the world, i am pretty happy overall....as far as man made global warming, i do not believe it...but as i told my friend last night...i could be wrong....
i believe new tech is the answer....but may be several years away

Only weeks. News is flawed about everything, especially now due to social media enabling anybody to write a story.

If you could point me to an accurate place to read about US health care, then I'll read it. Obamacare seems to be like what we have here.

[EDIT:]The U.S. Health Care System: An International Perspective — DPEAFLCIO ... maybe the main difference is we get paid when we are sick. There is a limit of course. It appears Americans don't ... ?[/EDIT]

Pete, wouldn't it be nice if there was a single, reliable news source? I am unaware of one, particularly regarding health care. There are always compromises and certainly the U.S. is not perfect but I think some restraint is in order if you are basing criticism on reported "news". I am not interested in a debate. Come here sometime if you can. You might find things are quite different than what you have been led to believe.

I've been there. LA left me 100% cold, but I was only there for days. Chicago looked interesting but only there for 3 weeks a few times. Like anywhere you need to live there and get to know the people to make accurate statements. Loved Hawaii but that trip was a holiday.

I believe in climate change and it is happening already. Yes politicians exaggerated but we do need to act, the sooner the better

having used healthcare in europe and now working in healthcare here for many years i couldn't agree more...am surprised by some of the misconceptions....but people from all over the world come to some of the hospitals i have worked at.ucla, childrens hosp of la, st jude, cedar sinai, city of hope..etc....we must be doing something right,,,,,kaiser is even getting better, where the wait time to see a specialist can sometimes be a problem, although i believe waiting too long to see a specialist can be the difference between life and death ...end of rant...back to global warming!

if you believe in climate change....that is man made, lets try to get china to adhere to the paris agreement now...not ten years from now..... if they do i am all in for us to do it...if not, it is just economic warfare as far as i am concerned

I found LA lacking in culture. Went to a Mexican influenced market which was the highlight of my time there.

The Petersen car museum was great though.

Economically I think, like most things, it will be cheaper, or have less impact, the earlier a country starts the transition to a low-carbon based economy, plus the obvious benefits to our host planet.

England moved their economy from coal and mining decades ago to banking (I think). Was painful, but procrastination achieves nothing.

Yes China, and others, may have the upper hand (they already do as largest holder of US Treasury securities: Impact of the Chinese Economy on the U.S. Economy in 2018) short term, but this is not a short term issue. It's a complex issue, but I think how much money we all have might have to play second fiddle; noting I say this as a middle class person ...

Native born Californian here and the climate has not changed AT ALL. Rainy cool winters and warm dry summers from May until October...

While in other parts of the globe...
I grew up in SoCal (Rural Orange County) and LA looked like this most days. It is actually much, much better most days now, but still can get 'thick' if the wind blows the wrong way!
Used to joke with friends about not trusting any air we could not see LOL! Not today!

Larry Fink's letter to CEO's

"climate change is driving a profound reassessment of risk and asset values",

"in the near future - and sooner than most anticipate - there will be a significant reallocation of capital."
