There were four judging from the parts list we supplied. My guess is one "hero" car (the nice one used for close ups and suchlike) and three stunt cars. They may not have been counting on wrecking any but it makes sense to have a couple of spares in case of a breakdown, you don't want an expensive location shoot and millions of people standing around while a set of brake pads gets changed.
