Working my way thru gremlins on my newly acquired 1993 164L.

Today was using cruise control for first time. Worked fine until I went to tap the brakes to disengage it. And it stayed on. Holy ****. That woke me up quick.

The only way to get it to slow down is to turn off cruise by hand or push in coast button

any ideas?

disengage switch

on the brake pedal is stuck -- if you look closely down at the brake pedal, there are two switches -- one for brake lights and one for cruise control. Unplug the one for CC, and put your ohmeter on it -- then depress the brake and see if the resistance changes from OPEN to ~0 ohms

Is CC switch bracket bent so switch not being pushed by brake pedal? If car 5-speed there is matching switch wired in series with brake pedal switch.

Mine of course does not engage, but that's ok because I don't believe in CC for an Alfa, even on freeways, too much traffic, crazy drivers, etc, but hey, that's just us.
