While continuing the process of removing old paint and filler, I came across this crack in the driver's side A-pillar. Is this where the pillar and the roof panel originally joined? And suggestions on fixes other than just welding it up? Thanks.

Yes, that looks like the factory join which was usually lead filled before painting. I think that I can see the remnants of some lead in your photo.
I agree with Mark... That is where the top is lap or joined to the A-pillar. Look on the inside for any evidence of fracturing, tearing or other issues. Using heat of any kind will melt away what lead is already there.

Thanks guys. I took a look at the inside and didn't see any evidence of cracks.

I suggest you just weld it up, perhaps using oxy acetylene for a self-annealed weld. Be sure to remove all the lead filler that is invariably there( as suggested above it is a factory roof to A-pillar joint) as it will interfere with getting a good weld. Good that you checked the back side (inside) for other cracking.
