The clutch slave failed on my 89 Gold. I'm replacing it using the longer rod from my car (as opposed to the short Spider rod supplied with the replacement part. My question concerns the spring that goes behind the piston...the one from the old slave is almost twice as long (relaxed) as the one new one. The old spring is stiffer too. Does it make a difference which one I use?
Thanks!

When I bought a Spider slave the only thing I swapped was the rod.

Thanks Kevin, I looked things over and am going the same route as soon as the Shoe Goo repair to the rubber boot dries.

I got it back together and it works fine. The Shoe Goo repair worked great as the boot doesn't flex at all. It was pure hell to get the clutch pivot arm back onto the throwout bearing.
Thanks.

Yeah, they can be annoying if you don't get everything lined up just right, then after screwing with it for a while it just slips on and you wonder if it is really on :).
