And to your first question : IT ain't my car..(same powertrain though)..

Car : 81 Alfa GTV6
Problem : With
engine running,
we
cannot get car in gear. Clutch pedal feels normal, and
the clutch fluid
container is full, but car makes terrible grinding
sound when you try
to put
it in gear (so you don't). Thanks. It does go in gear with car off, clutch seems to not disengage because with car off, clutch down, in gear, car does not move

ok, here's some questions on your clutch problem:

1) how long has the car been sitting? sometimes the clutch gets stuck to the flywheel and you can unstick it. If this is the case I'll tell you how:

get the car running (preferably on the top on a hill) , then slip it in gear while rolling without the clutch (it should go pretty easy). Then drive uphill to get a load on the car in 2nd gear. give it some gas and push the clutch all the way in and out a few times. You should head a "bang" as the clutch frees itself from the flywheel and all should be normal again. sontimes it takes a few trys depending on how stuck it is to the flywheel.

2) did it work ok until recently?

3) have you bled the clutch hydraulics recently?
