IMG_20200601_142914.jpg These clips have a hole for a screw. My question is ... do they screw into the sheet metal of the transmission tunnel or is there something else that they screw into?

If its similar to the 2000 GTV console, the factory used self-tappimg metal screws and zipped them into the transmission tunnel sheet metal. Take care to pre-punch a pilot hole through the carpet and to singe the stray pile fibers BEFORE zipping in the screw or you risk pulling the carp[et pile trheads.

If you don't want to double hole the tunnel sheet metal.....why not check first to see if there are existing holes in the tunnel already at the locations required? If so, simply back locate a long drill or wire from the tunnel into the cabin interior.
