Dear CIAO participants:

I would like to first thank those that are considering driving the tour. A reminder that the tour will be driven in honor of Alex Battistoni (Marco's son) and each car should make a $25 donation to NADS -National Association of Down Syndrome.

This first CIAO tour is scheduled for this coming Sunday morning, May 3rd. In lieu of running a tour to Southern Wisconsin a heavy request to visit the Northwest part of Illinois has prevailed. Our destination will be Galena, the arrival time should be approximately at 12:15 in the afternoon.

Meeting point will be the Oasis on I-88 just before the Annie Glidden Road. It's 31.5 miles West of Winfield Rd., make sure to NOT drive thru it, otherwise you will get off at Annie Glidden and come back. Plan on being there between 8:45 / 9:00 AM. I will have a set of maps for each car, we expect approx. 12 cars. I would like all participants to please respond back if you are coming or just call me on my cell at 630-542-9559.

Upon leaving the Oasis, we will drive approx. 50 miles West on 88 until we cross Rt. 30 for the second time. We will exit on 30 West at the Lincoln Hwy West exit (NOT Rock Falls exit).

30 West through Morrison and into Fulton where it merges into Illinois Route 84. (Go North)

We will then take Route 84 North al the way up along the Mississippi River through Savanna and continue North until it merges onto Route 20

Proceed North on 84 /20 into Galena. We will then gather for a Group lunch at "One Eleven Main", it's very clean and they seemed to have a decent lunch menu. Please send me a note ASAP, I need to reserve tables. Galena is very beautiful, with small specialty shops. Their "Main Street" is amazing.

Some of the better roads are actually coming out of Galena. At approx. 2:15 we will begin the second stage of the Tour. Right out of Galena, take a right into W Stagecoach Trail. Beautiful and amazing sceneries! We will drive West toward Route 78.

South on Route 78 to Route 20. At this stage, those that want to drive directly East toward Rockford / I-90 can do so.

We will continue down South on Route 78 throught Pleasant Valley and back into Morrison where we started and back East on I-88.

See you Sunday and be on time.

CIAO,
Carm

Thank you CIAO!

Hi CIAO Group,

Alex and I just wanted to thank all of you for an absolutely fantastic day. The weather was perfect, the cars were spectacular, and the drive on the backroads of Illinois couldn't have been better. Thanks to all of you for donating to a very important cause that touches the lives of so many people.

I think Alex is truly hooked - he made vroom vrrroom noises all the way home and I think I have created a mini-me - someone who doesn't need to turn on the radio and just wants to listen to the beautiful music of Italian motors!:D

Thank you all for your generosity and THANK YOU ESPECIALLY TO CARM! We will post some pictures from the day soon.

Best,
Marco and Alex:)

Thanks Marco!;)

We had a total 17 people show up to support NADS, not counting two children. Mostly everyone attending were CAROC members and we could not have asked for a more perfect day. A variety of Italian cars, not including "Barney the Dinosour" disguised as a purple Vette, gathered to make some noise following Rout 84 North towards Galena. I will post pictures and a few videos this evening.

I would like to thank all who participated and their amazing generosity for such a deserving cause. Thirteen cars ran the tour and we managed to gather a total of $850. :) A few of the donors were out of state friends, or simply guys who could not make it that day.

Everyone wanted to know when the next tour would happen and if we could have one next week. Well, maybe not next week, but in the near future or perhaps a tour that would end up at Autobahn on July 3rd?

Thanks again guys!

Finally, Galena. First lunch, then a nice walk down Main Street and ice cream to top it off.

Correction!!

CIAO Group,

Another generous donor dropped off a check to me tonight. A neighbor of mine who really wanted to join us on Sunday but couldn't due to other obligations, thinks so highly of the charitable idea behind CIAO that he wanted to donate to the NADS cause. He wrote a check for $250 bringing our total up to $1,100 for the event!!:) Steve is an Alfa guy, but he also has Porsche influence polluting his blood.;)

Thanks again to all of you. The checks will be joyously presented to NADS soon.

Marco

CIAO in NADS National Newsletter

Marco forwarded this to me to share with all, especially those of you who went out of your ways to help make this a success. In the spirit of creating "good image", this would serve well for many regional clubs to be more involved with. Give a little / receive much-much more.

Thanks to all once again.

NADS Spring Tour , May 16th!

NADS Spring Tour –Sunday May 16th
Last May, a group of CAROC enthusiasts embarked on a mission to make a difference in children’s lives. Unofficially creating a group called CIAO, the group’s first focus was NADS, National Association for Down Syndrome. The Tour was driven in honor of Alex, the beautiful son of Marco and Aileen Battistoni.

On that beautiful Sunday morning, a group of 14 Italian cars gathered at the Annie Glidden Road Oasis. Prior to leaving, we gathered for pictures and kicked a few tires. Each car donated a check of $25 made out to NADS. Since we ended up gathering over $1100.00, it was obvious that the good news spread to other car enthusiasts and friends. The donations were sent to NADS and they recognized our effort nationally! Everyone attending realized how lucky we were and how fortunate to be able to enjoy our cars and throw in a half-tank of petrol for a great cause!

The destination was Galena, the drive was fantastic and the group involved had a phenomenal time. We walked around the quaint picturesque town, had a wonderful lunch and enjoyed each other’s company. I hope we can re-create the fun and enjoyment again this year. Please attend this wonderful cause, donations are NOT mandatory. So get your car ready, and look forward to a great drive. See you there!

wish I could be there

Hey Carm, I will be driving from seattle in your 74. just kidding, I sent you an e-mail but I thought I would post here, hope the photo comes out good. the color is off a bit, it's way more green than this, but it still looks good and drives just fantastic. how do you like the refurbished momo's? I think they brighten up the car quite a bit.
