Chrome mirrors on an S3 (1990 Graduate)

When I get mine repainted this winter I'm thinking of changing the large painted square mirrors to this older style:

I know I'll have to disconnect the mirror switch and the mirrors would then become manual. I plan on painting the original mirrors as well in case I sell it someday and the next owner wants to swap back. I already have a wood steering wheel and shift knob on it so its got the older look going on already.
See the after pictures here:

Todd - I have an 86 Quad. I too am considering going "chrome" Aside from what others may think, I sort of like the older style "Spider" and have added a Nardi wheel etc... to help dress things up. Are you aware of any modifications or any issues with adding the mirror you reference ? Are the existing mirror holes too large to be covered by the chrome mirror etc..

Thanks

Jeff

I guest the issue is not the design but the execution - mine has paint peeling off which lets the car down looks wise

i have the similar 'classic' approach mentioned above. nardi wheel, stainless mirrors. looks nice on a black spider.

my mirror controls are disconnected and useless.

i have to admit its more often than you would think that my mirror is bumped or not looking out and require manual adjustment. especially due to the fact that the mirror's face is small and pretty slim.

i definitely like them over the S3 mirrors which were clunky and huge. but the S4 has a much more elegant implimentation. owning them right now, i would probably stay stock on the S4 (which im hunting for these days for my lady). especially when factored with the remote adjustability feature that comes with stock.

but the stainless are cheap as hell , and you can always put the old ones back later. so i guess worth checking out!
