Yes, thats the best and largest CHGP for years. Is usually bi-annual, but due to the succes this year, it it planned to be an annual event. I certainly hope so.

The #39 Alfa is a GTAm - and it certainly looks stunning - and runs really well too. It was 4th in its class - after a Ford Escort TC, a BMW 2002 DK and a Ford Mustang.

A few more pics:

There were 2 GTAs there - both driven reeeeeeeally carefully:

This was one on display......:

Thank you for sharing your camera work Jorgen. What a great event.
I would say that car number 70 was matched only by car number 43 for style and grace and that certain savior faire that only comes with four door racing.

Wow, Jorgen!! It's great the way you can get so close to the racing over there! Here in North America, the safety laws usually make it impossible to really get in close unless you are a corner-worker, or actually driving.

It is refreshing to see all those gorgeous old tin-tops duking it out! Was that a yellow Saab 96 I saw? Is that cool or what?

Cheers,

Alex,
We dont have any real "high speed" tracks here in Denmark, so it is usually easy to get rather close to the cars. This event, however, is arranged in the city streets of copenhagen. The fencing put up for a weekend, made of haybales or concrete blocks. It gets you even closer than at any track - really great, and perfect for photography.

Yup, the yellow car is a Saab 96 - from sweden obiously :)

- the Saab certainly looks cool, but was way too slow too be a serious competitor. I always wondered how it used to be so succeful in rallying with that tiny 2-stroke engine.
A large number of drivers came over from sweden - incl. the two Alfa 1600GTA's

Ah yes! A troll, built by trolls in Trollhaten! Very cool car!

There's one that races over here on the East Coast. I just love the sound that his engine makes as he downshifts into a corner and then accelerates out...it always makes me laugh "Ring-eee-ding-eeee-pop-pop-pop-blaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!"

Actually, those cars can be made to run very quickly, but their main reasons for being competitive in rallying in the 'Sixties were:

1. They had GREAT drivers!

2. They had a well-balanced and very light car with front-wheel drive, good ground-clearance and sticky (skinny too!) Nokia and Vredstein snow tires with very deep read blocks and very soft rubber compounds. Most of the competition was either running Rear Wheel Drive cars with poor balance and slippery tires, or small Front Wheel Drive cars like the mini, which although very fast, suffered when taller ground clearance was needed.

3. They had excellent factory support.

got more alfa pics?
I most certainly do - thought you'd never ask ;)

This swedish Giulia was having trouble with the brakes. At this picture they were venting them - one guy at the pedal, one at the valve - the conversation (in swedish) sounded something like this: "press! - lift! - more pressure! - let off! - press! - lift! - feels better now?" sounded funny from a distance..... ;)
