what size adapter do i need when putting a regular sized cd player in the dash? i noticed autozone and walmart have some adapters, and im wondering if any of those will work

Just use an ABS plastic sheet made by one of the usual stereo install kit companies like Metra or Scosche. Cut a plate to fit the car and stereo. That's all you need to use in these cars. That's what I did and many others have done.
