Dear Alfisti,

I recently bought an Alfa 33 and it's trans-axle has the dreaded synchro issue. We opened it and found the selector sleeve was blue in some places (heat damage) and so badly cut and eaten in to it, so that the copper color shows. (see photo) I learnt that the same synchro problem is there in older Alfa boxes/trans-axles too.

On a motoring video, I learnt the availability of kevlar/carbon synchros.

I am not a technical person to compare abrasion properties of mating materials, but I like to know your expert opinions on this, whether this kind of synchro would help?
