Take a length of small rubber vacuum hose, and with one end in your ear, probe around and try to localize where the chirp is coming from. If under the cam cover, then go get a real mechanic's stethoscope, and/or pull the cam cover.

You have to pull the air cleaner and oil the hamster wheel. While your in there feed the hamster. I've heard it adds 10 HP. Or maybe it could be the SPICA belt.

With the engine idleing and you can hear the squeek,,Spray carby cleaner around carbys and inlet manifold and carby mounts to find the squeek.
If it stops,,you have found the leak.
This squeek can also happen with New carby mounts.
I always modify the new or old carby mounts before installing.
Thats another story

Is it possible you have a small coal mine in that area? Would explain the canary sounds. Sorry, been drinking and couldn't resist.
