Hi
I'm taking this very cautiously. Need to adjust cam timing after head gasket replacement. How do I lock the cam in order to loosen and tighten the nut at the front of the cam/vernier assembly

The red neck method is to use vice grips. There is a special tool that does the same job without chewing up the camshaft. IAP may still sell it but it is easy to make one. There is a picture of it in the workshop manual.

Thanks ed and Richard
After looking more carefully, I realized that I was simply one chain-link out on the intake sprocket. By simply undoing the chain, rotating the sprocket by the span of one link and re-connecting the chain one link along on the sprocket, the cam timing worked out fine.
If i do have to adjust cam timing in the future, I would probably invest in the special tool. 70 ft/pounds is a lot of torque to hold the cam against.
Couple of pics to follow showing timing at tdc on the crank pully mark.
Thanks again for your quick responses.

Mike
