after about a year of scrounging parts, i have started a v6 conversion for my 87 spider graduate. previous mods were shankle springs, eibach sway bar, serpent autosport fender flares w/ 15x8 1/2 centerlines wearing 225-50 rubber. i will using a 3.0 verde motor w/ mild head porting, alquati spec cams, and megasquirt 2 controlling fuel and spark. i located an alfa sei short block and was planning on a welded bellhousing. maybe still, but thats a long story. i also plan on cleaning the rear up w/ an early stainless bumper, no rear spoiler, and taillight mods. i will be doing most of the work myself. i have been following streetfame's very impressive project, but my direction [and budget] are different, more 60's. two kids in college and a 37 yr old sailboat see to that. i can't believe how much rotten wood a fiberglass boat can have. hopefully i can be back on the road by the end of the year but who knows. i will give it my best shot

what size?
Same as it had, 225-50-15 on 15 x 8 1/2 Centerline Warrior wheels
Was planning on inspection today BUT…..the car had other ideas. I took it for a longish drive this morning and the brake pedal started going to the floor. Master cylinder. That’s ordered. Another issue that cropped up were the rear shock absorbers. They are KYB gas shocks and I guess all the gas in the rear shocks defected to the great outdoors because it is really bouncy. Other than that it ran great, driveability is really good and the drivetrain is smooth and vibration free, although I haven’t had it up to freeway speeds yet. Also still arguing with the vent window frames for them to line up at least close to where I want them

Finally! Inspected, registered and driving. While I am having some tuning issues, it drives great. We had our club picnic at Memorial park today with 16 Alfa‘s in attendance. I should have more pictures. After I made it home, I went ahead and cut off the exhaust tip. You can see how small the actual exhaust outlets are, will weld on a tip next day or so

First season of driving is always the shakedown period...
Agree. Now the rear carb is not running correctly and a pump squirter on the front carb ain’t quirtin. Retorqued the heads yesterday and re-checked valve clearances before another drive after the exhaust mods. Sounds SO much better than before, a bit louder but a lot deeper. Will do a video soon after another round of carburetor fun

I removed the carburetors to go through them thoroughly. The front carb that wasn’t getting an accelerator pump squirt was missing 2 very small washers under the pump jet and fuel was leaking around the jet ( oops! ). Another issue on the front and rear carbs was the passenger side of both throttle plates weren’t centered. Holding the carb up and looking down the bore at a light you see light thru the 1 plate. This with the idle screw backed off and holding the throttle arm closed. The fix was easy except that the screws are very small and tight. Loosen, open and close a couple of time to let the plate center itself and carefully tighten. Before the passenger side always ran lower the the left side, if the synchronizer was left side a 4, the right would be at 3. Hopefully balance out now

Locktite those screws or peen the ends.... some how the screws don't increase the combustion process🤔🤣🤣👍
locktite blue, a little dab’l do ya! I’ve seen what a small bolt will do to a combustion chamber. Happy Thanksgiving!

While waiting on Classic Alfa ( they must be really slowed by the UK pandemic mandates ) for some more trim bits and also for new richer main jets in the carbs, I went ahead and trimmed out the trunk. My carpet kit was for an S2 so a few differences. Sides and rear were from the kit but for the floor I cut 2 backer board sections to make it easier to remove the spare. Also a backer board for the front bulkhead side carpet with Velcro as in S3 fashion. Cut new carpet and some contact cement, done. I already had a large piece of matching carpet from interior work on the enlarged transmission tunnel. And a carburetor hanky to keep bugs out

carbi covid 10 mask?
Please no! We don’t do masks much in Texas! Besides, it’s been vaccinated with fresh oil and premium fuel

I am not happy with the front air dam. Overall look is good but some basics are flawed. Lower lip of air dam on drivers side is about an inch offset to the rear and the lip overall is a bit too low, I’m afraid an aggressive speed bump could take it out. It will be easier to just cut up the original plug and start over. Started to grind thru the fillers and immediately filled the garage with dust. Outside it went. Will cut it off the original S2 steel lower valance and test fit again
