I have a 1986 spider veloce, and brake fluid appears to be leaking at the grommit where the reservoir enters the brake master cylinder. is this an indication that just the grommet needs to be replaced, or that the master cylinder is also failing. is there any way to confirm the master cylinder does not need to be replaced?

With the brake lines still attached at the master cylinder, remove it from the booster. Look for fluid in the booster. If there is fluid in the booster, then replace the master cylinder.Easier than that, feel the bottom of the booster. If it is wet, then the master cylinder is leaking into the booster via the rear m.c. seal.Be sure and flush the booster a couple of times with water.Brake fluid WILL ruin the booster.
